advanced clarinet student...high school through college. They have been writen in the tradition and spirit of the Rose
Etudes and Studies. Each etude is in a different major or minor key and emphasizes one or more aspects of playing.

playing demands on the performer with keys through four sharps and flats. The areas emphasized include finger technique,
chromatic scales, wide intervals, phrasing, ornaments, arpeggios, jazz style, cadenzas, staccato, extended techniques, syncopation,

up to and including four sharps and flats. Each etude deals with a specific area of playing including mixed articulation,

The Entertainers A suite in three movements for solo clarinet.
These pieces would be ideal for the intermediate level clarinetist to play in recital (either individually or as an entire
suite). The movements are: I - The Ballerina, II - The Clown, III - The Virtuoso.
20 Tongue Twisters This set of etudes is designed to work on articulation
skills through a variety of keys, tempos, patterns and styles. Instead of approaching tonguing through traditional repetitive
exercises, this book presents a wide variety of musical ideas and forms intended to sustain the students' interest while working

Clarinet Solos with Piano
Gypsy Moods This work was designed as an intermediate level recital
and contest piece and would be ideal for most students in the 8th to 9th grades. It is in two movements: 1) Meditation
(slow) and 2) Dance (fast). The two movements are connected by a short cadenza. The highest note for the clarinet

Variations on "Carnival of Venice" This set of nine variations
on the ever popular "Carnival" theme is a work for advanced level players...high school through college. It was recently
added to the authorized list of high school contest solos for the state of Missouri and rated as an "A" (Advanced) level

Variations on a "Theme of Haydn" This set of variations
was designed as a recital and contest piece for intermediate level players, grades 8-9. It consists of the Theme (from
the slow movement of Haydn's "Surprise Symphony"), four variations, and a coda. The clarinet key is C Major
and the highest note is C above the staff. This work was also recently added to the authorized list of high school
solos for the state of Missouri and was rated as a "B" (Intermediate) level piece. Available from Woodwindiana. Click

Clarinet Duets
Suite for Two Clarinets This is a delightful set of duets for two
clarinets that would be ideal for performance on a recital or between teacher and student or just for an informal duet session.
The six movements are as follows: I - Waltz; II - Scherzo; III - Shepherd's Dance; IV - Rag; V - Intermezzo; and VI - Jazz
